An imprint on Juelsminde's history
Between 1910 and 1920, Einar Viggo Schou was responsible for draining and sewering the town of Juelsminde. He had many of the historic buildings built that you can see in the cityscape today: Juelsminde Church, the vicarage, the cemetery, the forester's house and a number of workers' and white-collar residences.
Schou brought in the architect Magdahl Nielsen to the area, and with a new town plan, the town got wide streets and beautiful houses with gardens. Magdahl Nielsen was influenced by the Better Building Practice movement and created a very special architectural identity in the local area.
The Schou family also supported the city's vulnerable with "poor relief for the less well-off". The family also donated a plot of land to the Christmas Seal Home, so the children could have a garden.
