BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN PALSGAARD CASTLE PARK

The Guild Hall

Landowner Einar Viggo Schou was a visionary leader who was concerned with creating a good working environment for his employees. He believed that it was important that the employees had the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves after a long day at work.

Inspired by the banquet hall at the world's largest margarine factory, Southall in England, of which Schou was a co-owner, he therefore had the Guild Hall built in 1915.

The Guild Hall was an important part of Schou's vision. He wanted to give the employees a place where they could meet and socialize, and where they could have cultural experiences.

Schou was also aware that evening and night workers often had difficulty staying awake. Therefore, he set up a library in the Guild Hall so that the employees could have something to read that could keep them awake. The library was also open to locals a few days a week.

The guild hall is still in use today, and it is used by Palsgaard's employees for gymnastics, yoga, badminton, as well as parties, events and other activities, just as it is used by Palsgaard Summer Games during the summer months. It is an important place for community and culture at Palsgaard.
