BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN PALSGAARD CASTLE PARK
The old granary
The old granary at Palsgaard is today a well-preserved example of the building style that is repeated in larger granaries across the country. The magazine is equipped with a hoist and doors in the gable, so that the load could easily be brought to the upper floors. At the same time, the many windows that are closed with shutters can still be seen.
The windows in the old granaries were important, as constant ventilation was essential to keep the grain dry and to prevent too much flammable dust in the air. On the other hand, it was not important that you could see out of the windows, so shutters were an excellent solution instead of glass.
