BEHIND PALSGAARD ESTATE

Palsgaard Castle through time

The history of Palsgaard Castle stretches back to the Middle Ages, where the first known owner, Jep Kalv, is mentioned in 1372. Originally, the buildings were located about 1.5 kilometers from their current location. The mound from the original building can still be visited in the forest at Ashoved. In the 1400s, the building was erected in its current location and has since been renovated several times.

Palsgaard's three-winged main building got its current appearance after a rebuilding in 1803-05. However, the building's massive masonry makes it clear that the core of the building originates from the medieval stone house of the 15th century, and the cellars can be dated to this time. The building was originally surrounded by water and is still partly surrounded by moats today.
